Salinas BWA News for November 2016

November, 2016 Newsletter Article

On October 9, 2016, our new minister, Rev. Yugo Fujita, arrived in Salinas.  A few SBWA members met him when he arrived in Salinas and went to dinner with him.

Many members helped clean and prepare the parsonage for sensei. They purchased linens, bedding and kitchen items and food supplies.

Rev. Fujita attended his first SWBA board meeting on Wed. October 12, 2016.  We had a small potluck dinner with him and he enjoyed the meal very much.  Being a young bachelor, he enjoyed taking home the leftovers!  We are very happy to have our new minister attend our meetings and look forward to his support and advice on our  BWA services and activities. Welcome Sensei!

Bonnie Yokota, Irene Yonemitsu and Carol Cisneros represented Salinas BWA at the biannual BCAFBWA Conference in Bellevue, WA. The theme was "Linked in the Nembutsu: Tsunagatte". The keynote speakers were English:  Dr. Sharon Suh and Japanese: Rev. Mutsumi Wondra. It was a wonderful conference with diverse workshops that related to a wide range of interests and ages. The tour to the International area, Chihuly Glass Museum and Pike Market place was interesting and a lot of fun. The next BCAFBWA conference will be Oct. 12-13, 2018 in Fresno hosted by the Central California District. Their theme is: "Create an Endless Ripple".

On Oct. 16th, the temple had their Eitaikyo, Shotsuki service as well as the annual Keirokai for seniors and Welcome potluck luncheon for Rev. Fujita.  We thank both BWA Tobans Group 3 and Group 4 for making the Seki Han and Daifuku Manju for our seniors in our temple and for setting up and overseeing the luncheon.  Everyone enjoyed the wonderful foods brought by our temple members and enjoyed the short entertainment program.

SBWA/ BTS made their annual donation to the Salinas Warming Center for women and children which opens up on Nov. 1, 2016. This money comes from the I-Help account.

On Nov. 6th we will have our annual Udon luncheon.  Tobans Group 1 and Group 2 are in charge of the luncheon. Carol Cisneros and Kahori Kuramura are chairs for this event. Most members have received their Udon tickets to sell.  Please report your sale of tickets to your District Chairperson by Oct. 28th!  Thank you.

On Nov. 13th, we will have our BWA Memorial Service in memory of all the BWA members who are now in the Pureland.  Since this is our 90th year of Salinas BWA, we have planned a special luncheon for our BWA members.  You have received your special invitation and please RSVP to your Toban chairperson by Nov. 1.  We hope to see you Nov. 13 to celebrate our 90th anniversary.
