Spring Ohigan Tri-Temple Seminar – March 14, Saturday 11 AM to 1 PM at the Salinas Temple (in person with Zoom option)

Salinas will host this year’s Tri-Temple Spring Ohigan Seminar on Saturday, March 14, from 11 AM to 1 PM. The special guest speaker for the event will be Rev. Yoichi Shimizutani. He will be talking about the difficult subject of end-of-life decisions from a Buddhist perspective. This is the registration link.

About the Speaker:

Rev. Shimizutani was born at Sensouji-Zenryuin Temple in Tokyo, Japan (located inside the Asakusa Temple grounds) as the eldest son of the jyushoku (resident minister) family. In 2010, he received Tokudo Ordination from the head monk of Sensouji Temple, Shimizutani Kōshō (his grandfather). He graduated from Musashi University with a degree in Anthropology. After graduation, he went to Enryakuji Temple (where Shinran Shonin spent some time) on Mt. Hiei to train as a monk. Since 2023, he has been pursuing a Master of Science in Gerontology at the University of Southern California, which he completed recently.

Asian Cultural Experience of Salinas (ACES) Member Appreciation Night at the Temple

The Buddhist Temple of Salinas is hosting ACES Member Appreciation Night on March 18, 2026, from 5–7 pm in the gym. Temple parking will be available.

ACES is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to preserve, promote, and enrich the history and multicultural identity of Salinas Chinatown — historically the home of Salinas' Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino communities. The board includes representatives of all three communities, as well as the Monterey County Historical Society, Friends of the Salinas Public Library, and the First Mayor's House.

This Member Appreciation Night serves as the kickoff to our campaign to promote the Asian Fair, to be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026. It will be a chance to meet other ACE members and officers, and to get updates on the Republic Café renovation.  Please join us to learn more about ACES' work in Salinas Chinatown!
